Work In Progress
A new paintings is under way. Above is how it looked last Sunday (1 Oct) with all the base blacks in place. Below is the initial pencils and the first few areas of black undercoat, completed the previous day.
It’s the first in a planned triptych of paintings, inspired by one of my favourite poems, W.B. Yeats’ ‘The Second Coming’. I’m making a painting for each of the three stanzas in the poem with this one the first: ‘Turning and turning in the widening gyre, the falcon cannot hear the falconer.’ The other paintings in the triptych I’m still developing the reference for, though I kind of know what I want. Overall progress will be slow, as I’m now back to working full-time in an office, but I still expect this one to be finished by ‘early November’ and the triptych as a whole completed perhaps by next Spring? If I can finish one painting every 6 weeks or so I’ll be doing well but experience has taught me that reality so often likes to get in the way of my best intentions. Watch this space for further developments.
