Childhood’s End

I took this photograph in Cottingley, near Leeds. It was a blazing hot summer afternoon, the air was deathly still and there was no-one but myself out on in such unforgiving weather. This kid’s bike standing forgotten and forlorn on an empty street struck me as a total cliche at first, but something about it’s position against the shadows of the trees and the snapped twigs demanded I at least take a picture for posterity.
