John Vaillant: The Tiger cover

My 2013 painting ‘The Tiger’ mocked-up as a cover for the book that partly inspired it in the first place. I’ve always liked tigers, so much so that I’ve got one tattooed on my right arm, and regard them as another example of where nature sets a gold standard for aesthetic expression that man in all his fumblings will never match. John Vaillant’s The Tiger reinforces my appreciation for these creatures that are still being slaughtered simply because some people believe their body parts have magic healing properties. My attitude is that if you believe such nonsense then you should be forced to get your ‘medicine’ by facing down a real live tiger on your own. Then we’ll see how far your beliefs will get you.

John Vaillant – proposes a ‘Tiger standard’ of ethics
