Godspeed You! Black Emperor poster
This is my 2013 drawing ‘Sleepy Joe’, used as a mock-up for a concert poster for Godspeed You! Black Emperor. I’ve seen that band live twice. At the first, in 1999 at Bristol’s Fleece & Firkin, so overwhelming was their collective sonic assault that they blew out the power. They first emerged at the peak of pre-millenial hysteria, and their aesthetic was regarded in certain parts of the music press as the perfect soundtrack for the zeitgeist. Arguably, with the world in the state it’s in now, their music is more appropriate than it ever was.
