Whistle Down The Wind

Whistle Down The Wind - Rik Rawling 2017

I’ve already written about ‘Whistle Down The Wind’ (the Nick Heyward song) but didn’t acknowledge the film he took his title from. It was one of those films that seemed to only ever be shown on wet Sunday afternoons, but I held it in special reverence as it seemed to suggest that something miraculous (in this instance, the arrival of Jesus in a Lancashire farming community) could happen in the most mundane of places. This new drawing is an attempt to capture how I feel about the film and the effect it had on me all those years ago. I’ve never seen it since, and wouldn’t want to as it would probably ruin my memories of it.
