There Is A Light That Never Goes Out

Isn’t that why shadows get longer and longer in the evening? They are reaching out for the night, this tidal water of darkness that washes over the earth to fulfil for a few hours the shadows’ innermost yearnings.
Karl Ove Knausgård

I took this photograph down the lane near our house that passes this location I painted in 2016 and cuts through the heart of the estate. The street lights are gradually being replaced by newer ones that give off a much stronger white light. They’re probably more efficient than the old ones but I for one will miss the Lucozade glow that illuminated the romantic wanderings of my youth.
